Position:  Vice President of Sales - IT Professional Services (Public Sector)

Getting into a sales leadership role was awesome.  Close to the action, yet you could move the entire organization forward, and see your people do better than they ever thought they could. There's a lot of satisfaction in working with that person who busts their tail for mediocre results, and then showing them how to tweak their activity to do better than they ever could.  Plus, you've helped your leadership team make better decisions.  What segments and clients are growing.  What business should be focused on, and what business to leave in steady state.  You not only helped people be more effective, but you helped the business be more effective.  And, you still did a few of your own deals along the way.

So, why are you trolling through the job boards and see what's out there? 

Maybe things have changed.  You've been pulled into so many corporate initiatives that you can't remember the last time you were in front of a client. Or, you've been re-org'd into a corner of the business that's just not where you want to be. Perhaps the company was acquired and the culture you worked so hard to build is being dismantled.

Our client is a rapidly growing provider of IT services to the public sector.  The focus is currently with state and local government with some business in federal and pseudo government organizations in higher education.  Services encompass project / deliverable based services as well as high level staff augmentation (Technical Architects, Program Managers, Data Architects, etc.).  Over the past four years, they've tripled in size and revenue, and seeded business in additional states. They've opened their first remote office outside of their central Ohio headquarters. 

Now it's time to take the sales team to the next level of development.  This is where you come in. 

Why is this the one? 

This is a new role within the firm.  You can take your experience and lessons learned and build the kind of sales organization and culture you know that wins.  There's really no organizational rigidity as there's not been any real framework or processes in place.  You create the foundation and build the model.  You grow the folks and build the business.  

There's no preconceived notions here.  You are bringing a level of expertise the firm doesn't have. You are the leader. 

What's it take?

Pretty much what you would expect.  Deep experience in IT professional services sales, both project based and staff augmentation.  Solid public sector experience, ideally focused on state / local government.  A track record of enhancing and growing sales organizations.  

Everything is in place.  A great comp plan with expense allowances for car, phone, etc.   A seat at the table as a member of the Executive Committee.  An organization that wants what you have.
